About the programme

The title of Microwave International New Media Arts Festival 2019 is "E.A.T. ", which has a double meaning: eat and Experiments in Art and Technology; it can be both past and future, performative and experimental in one, carrying memories. Taiwan Art Festival will collaborate with Microwave for the very first time, bringing Taiwanese artists to the main exhibition and the project room exhibition.
Artist Ku Kuang-yi will present "New Ultimate Imperial Feast" in the main exhibition with Hong Kong designer Adelaide Lala Tam, blending traditional Chinese cuisine and bio-technology to imagine future food; Directors Chiu Hsiao-wei and Huang Pang-chuan will present their film-based projects at the Project Room Exhibition to link food to the notions of home and memory.

About the artists

Ku Kuang-yi
A former dentist, bio-artist and social designer currently based in the Netherlands. Ku co-founded TW BioArt (Taiwan bioart community) to stimulate the fields of BioArt and Science+Art in Taiwan. His works often deal with human body, sexuality, interspecies interaction and medical technology, aiming to investigate the relationships among technology, individual and environment.

Adelaide Lala Tam
Currently based in the Netherlands, Adelaide explores complexities within the food production system with an intention to unfold the stories behind it. She is curious about the role of a designer as a mediator between food and design and uses her design skills to reconnect people to the origin of their food.

Chiu Hsiao-wei, Ipa
Ipa is a video artist and writer, with long history in participating Civic Tech Community and currently she is working at the Taiwan Creative Content Agency on the cultural content of Taiwan.

Huang Pang-chuan
Trained as a graphic designer, and later immersed in the cinema in France, Huang's work contains three elements: memory, travel and traditional film technology. His two films "Return" and "Last Year When the Train Passed by" have won the Grand Prix in Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in consecutive years, and were presented at major festivals including Locarno Festival, IDFA, MoMA Doc Fortnight..
